high ceiling

In 2023 and early 2024, I had the opportunity to work for several months in a large studio that was still full of all kinds of building materials. According to the neighbors, there was a bad energy in the otherwise beautiful studio. With the things I found there I started to explore the space and also the materials themselves. Some moved nicely when I hung them up others turned out to be stackable or had interesting holes. I tried to measure the contents of the studio by balancing sticks and boards on top of each other to reach the ceiling or had long slats balance horizontally and touch the wall.By constantly changing the space using the found objects, its problematic history disappeared.

I filmed these temporary setups and showed them on instagram. One of the ‘balancing acts’ I showed at the exhibition BOUW in De Bouwput in Amsterdam where the ceiling turned out to be exactly the same height and equally inaccessible.

Another work I showed there, Two Squares, is made of 2 pieces of board and leans against the wall. It is a nod to hard edge minimalism.
BOUW is the 5th exhibition of POUBELLE
