broom and sway
Broom and Sway – installation (2023) found material
Two installations made for the group exhibition with POUBELLE at Vrij Paleis in Amsterdam. October 2023.
It is ancient knowledge that everything is filled with life. When starting to work in a new studio I found many objects to be still there. To explore the properties of the unknown objects and combining them with something familiar seemed the thing to do.
Broom: a flexible hollow tube made of grey foam fits the stick of the broom. It stabilizes the broom in an upright position in a distance from the wall.
Sway: 7 tubes of different length had been kept bent double in a corner of the studio for many years. The curve had set in their bodies. A cement block with 2 holes fitted them together exactly. Swaying in the draught is what they seem to do best.
POUBELLE OPEN was curated and organized by Lisbeth Parisius and Mirjam Berloth.
Paricipants: Porter Ellerman, Maria Gruppelaar, Ottokaji Iroke, Marjolein Knottenbelt, Anne-Will Lufting, Joanneke Meester, Jean-Philippe Paumier, H.F. van Steensel.
