plaster and paint

Plaster and Paint 2018
Flakes of colorful plaster were glued to small blocks of wood and finished with a transparent varnish. Each piece of wood has a hole in the back that fits a nail.
The objects look rather monumental but are too fragile to handle and have to be stored in a boxes filled with sand.
Mounted vertically the objects may be referring to the bark of trees. When hung horizontally the association may be a landscape.
The challenge was to use poor materials like scraps of wood, plaster and paint and transform them into something beautiful.  In the Arte Povera Movement artists transformed simple materials into forms with meaning.
