This installation was made for an exhibition at Loods 6: a large hall in a historical building in the port of Amsterdam. Emigrants dropped off their luggage here before boarding the ships that would take them to the New World.
One side of each wooden pole is covered in white plaster that has dripped down the sides. From different angles the installation has a different aspect, lighter or darker, depending on from where you approach it.
SETNET is a group of artists which comes together when it is requested to organise an exhibition of video and installation for a specific space. Usually the artists work with the history and the location of such a place and they develop new work especiallyfor this occasion.
One of the artists takes on the role of curator.
Loods 6 is an exhibition space with an interesting story. It is situated in the old harbor on the east side of Amsterdam.
